Improving Lives in the communities we serve

Full 2015 Report

Corporate social responsibility is a way of life at Fifth Third Bank. We are committed to actively engaging individuals and community groups to affect positive change for the betterment of all. Each year, we produce an annual report to the community outlining our progress. The 2015 CSR Report titled “Building Bridges,” is a 24-page summation of our efforts to be a good corporate citizen in the areas outlined below.

United Way

We believe that building a stronger community helps build a better bank. That’s why the United Way is a natural fit for us. In 2015, the Bank and our employees contributed more than $7.8 million to United Way across our 12-state footprint, and employees participated in hundreds of volunteer events to improve the well-being of local communities.

Consumers

Connecting consumers to necessary products and services, especially financial education, is one of the ways we improve lives in the community. We developed Express Banking to specifically meet the financial needs of the underbanked. We invest significant time and resources in our signature L.I.F.E. (Lives Improved through Financial Empowerment)® programs, and we offer specialty programs like Homeowner Reemployment that bridge out-of-work consumers with employment services from NextJob.

The My Money Program, created by the Florida Department of Financial Services, is a comprehensive and inclusive financial literacy program and resource clearinghouse for individuals with developmental disabilities, their family members and caregivers.

Communities

Our $27.5 billion community commitment demonstrates our seriousness in improving the well-being of the markets we serve. Through our Community and Economic Development department, Fifth Third Community Development Corporation, the Fifth Third Foundation and our regional banks and community partners, we work to create economically healthy and sustainable communities through strategic investments, grants, scholarships and sponsorships.

We are a U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Preferred Lender, having made $122 million in loans in 2015. We are committed to small businesses because they are critical to a healthy economy. The State Small Business Credit Initiative declared us the nation’s top lender by dollar volume last year and Greenwich Associates named us a “Best Brand in Small Business Banking.” We also support business development through philanthropic and other grants.

Employees

Named a Gallup Great Workplace for the third time in 2015, Fifth Third actively supports our inclusion councils and Business Resource Groups. We are especially proud of Project SEARCH, a school-to-work transition program for people with disabilities, for which we’ve earned numerous honors. We also care deeply about our employees’ financial and physical wellness, and are proud of their volunteerism in our communities—from feeding the hungry to joining in the fight against cancer.
